My latest show “The Palettes” is a series of 10 large wooden boards used as palettes for the paintings I created over the previous 4 years. After the palettes begin to develop form, a continuity of intent, and a semblance of composition, I replace it with a new board . The old board becomes the new painting to be worked on, and the new board becomes the new palette.
Each palette is brought to life by overlaying a composition. In the case of some paintings, a representational form is imposed over parts of the composition to act as anchors , drawing the eye to them . Using the palette as an underpainting gives depth and portrays the color and temperament of whatever I'm painting at that moment, and over a longer period allows me to present my series of 10 paintings as a singular piece that represents my evolution over time.
The individual parts of the original palette are layered by the nature of their intent and show how depth is created by flat planes of different value and color choices. The theme of movement being created by emhasizing the relationship between levels of liquidity of paint is still very present in this new style, however, in the Palettes, tension is created by the shifting from chaos to controlled and from flat to dimensional.
The palettes are shown here to be viewed in chronological order from 1 to 10, with each subsequent work showing the techniques and color choices that were influenced by the previous works.
There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about us. We hope you enjoy our site and take a moment to drop us a line.
